Somewhere along the way, fun became something you earn.

Finish the launch, then relax. Hit the number, then take the trip. Get through this season, then enjoy your life. And now it's June, the days are long, and you're still in the same gear you've been in since January, waiting for a green light that never quite comes.

The to-do list won't clear. You already know this. The real question is whether you're going to let another summer happen around you while you're not really in it.

The RebOOOt Report

There's a concept called Leisure Crafting. Not a spa day, not scrolling until you fall asleep β€” actual intentional downtime. Choosing what you do with your off hours instead of just collapsing into whatever's left.

Researchers have found that people who do this don't just feel better. They come back to their work more creative, more engaged, and more capable of making good decisions. A 2025 Harvard Business Review study found the benefits spill directly into work performance β€” not as a side effect, but as a direct result of how people spent time away.

The beach trip isn't a break from your strategy. It might be where your best idea this quarter comes from.

The Shift

The reframe is simple, even if it doesn't feel that way: fun isn't the reward for finishing. It's part of what makes the work sustainable.

You don't need to optimize your summer or turn rest into a productivity system. You just need to stop treating enjoyment like something you have to justify. The version of you who takes the trip, reads the novel, sits somewhere without the laptop? You're not falling behind. You're doing maintenance on the whole operation.

Here's the RebOOOt:

One thing. That's all.

Name one thing you've been putting off until things calm down. Not a wellness activity. Not a productive hobby. Something that actually sounds like FUN. A real trip somewhere. A long weekend with people you actually want to be around. The kind of plans you used to make without negotiating them against your calendar first.

Write it down with a date. This summer. Before September.

Then get honest about what's actually stopping you. Not logistically. Internally. Because most of the time it's not the workload. It's that we've quietly talked ourselves out of wanting things that don't have anything to do with the job.

Summer is short. You've lost enough of them to deadlines and the feeling that now isn't quite the right time. This one doesn't have to go the same way. The work will still be there. But this particular version of you, right now, wanting to actually enjoy her life, they're worth showing up for too.

That's the RebOOOt.
